The feature length animated adaptation of the Nintendo game, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has officially crossed the $1 Billion mark at the global box office. The film is a joint production by Universal Pictures, Illumination Entertainment and Nintendo. 

Only four other films have joined this distinction after the pandemic. The other films to cross the $1 Billion mark includes Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World: Dominion, and Avatar: The Way of Water. The film released in theatres worldwide on April 5 and received generally favourable critical and commercial response. This is the highest grossing film that is based on a video game. 

Directed by Aaron Horvath, and Michael Jelenic, the film has Chris Pratt voicing Mario while Anya-Taylor Joy voices Princess Peach, Charlie Day voices Luigi, and Jack Black voices Bowser.
