Alexander Payne's The Holdovers sets release date

Director Alexander Payne’s next The Holdovers will hit theatres on November 10, firstly as a limited release. It will have a worldwide release on November 22. The Holdovers will see the Oscar-winning director Alexander re-teaming with Paul Giamatti. The two previously worked together on the 2004 Oscar-winning film Sideways.

Paul Giamatti will be seen as a despicable history teacher at an elite New England prep school in The Holdovers. He is chosen by the school authorities to be the one to remain on campus to ensure the well-being of students who are unable to go home for Christmas break, as he is unloved by colleagues and students alike. The punishment turns into a win for Paul as he utilises the opportunity to develop a bond with a few characters in the school.

Alexander Payne came up with the film inspired by a 1930s French film set in a boarding school. The Holdovers will be set in the 1970s making it a period piece. The film also stars Dominic Sessa and Da’Vine Joy Randolph in important roles.  David Hemingson helped develop the screenplay for the film which he will also produce alongside Mark Johnson and Bill Block. Executive producers include Chris Stinson, Tom Williams, Andrew Golov, and Thom Zadra.
