One of the changes in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, directed by Rob Marshall, was the exclusion of an all-time favourite song featuring Sebastian.
In a recent media interaction with IndieWire, Marshall revealed the reason for not including the song. “The scene works better in animation than it would in live action. Well, that was the problem… It really is an animation concept. It felt like Saturday morning cartoons. That kind of thing, you can really do in animation, but in a different genre, it just wouldn’t work. It’d be so silly,” he said.
The Sebastian song was one of the few classics that missed out on being recreated in the recent remake. However, the new version of The Little Mermaid did have new songs being created. From Ariel’s song about seeing the world that exists above the sea to Prince Eric’s emotional song about finding the girl who saved him from drowning, there are a lot of new things to fall in love with in The Little Mermaid.
