The makers of Maamannan, one of the most anticipated Tamil films starring Vadivelu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil, and Keerthy Suresh, held a grand audio launch on Thursday at Nehru indoor stadium to unveil the film’s jukebox.

Kamal Haasan, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, heaping praise on Mari Selvaraj’s creation, said, “I have watched this film. And I want this film to win because the voice in the film must be heard. This film’s politics is not just Mari’s, it is mine too. I was a little worried that Udhay didn’t do a film under my production. But it’s okay. I consider Maamannan also to be my film. Because it talks my politics.”

He also hailed Keerthy that her choice of films reflects her intelligence. About Vadivelu, he said that he and Ilaiyaraaja were fans since the beginning. “During Thevar Magan’s time, many were doubtful if he could pull off that role. But he proved them wrong. Especially in the climax scene, he was supportive and also uplifted my performance. Such a voice was needed for Maamannan and I’m glad he’s part of it. Maamannan’s reception will reflect the audience’s taste. This discourse should continue for a better tomorrow,” he added.

Actor Udhayanidhi, who earlier stated that this will be his last film, during the audio launch, stated that although he does not have plans to do any films for the next three years if he ever plans to return to films, it will be in Mari’s direction.

“I told everyone that Maamannan is my last film, and that’s how I got the dates from all the artists and technicians. Mari and I decided that if #Vadivelu sir doesn’t agree to do this film, we should do a different one. I saw a 10-minute sequence of Vadivelu Anna. I was stunned to see his performance. I immediately went and hugged him. Mari told us to match his performance.”

Meanwhile, Vadivelu said that appreciated Mari for creating this film with intricate details. “Maamannan is not just a film. It’s a reflection of reality. What I learned from Kamal Haasan in Thevar Magan helped me to work on this project. And the first time I heard the story of Maamannan, I felt the pain of Mari and I am sure it will connect with everyone. I don’t know if I can get a role like this again… but I wish I could keep doing such films,”  he added.

He also joined music composer AR Rahman on stage to sing a few lines of the Raasa Kannu song. Speaking about singing in ARR composition, he said that he was initially worried if he could pull it off. But it was ARR who encouraged him and taught him one line at a time.

Actor Keerthy Suresh revealed that she plays a communist in Maamannan which talks about a lot of social issues. ” I’ve unlearnt a lot of things working with Mari sir. Above all, the importance he gives to women is immense. I could connect with every dialogue. I’m grateful to Mari sir, for this opportunity.”

Mari Selvaraj revealed that Vadivelu, who plays the titular role, is inspired by his father. “Thevar Magan has impacted me a lot. I thought what if my father was in this world? Vadivelu sir’s Isaki in Thevar Magan paved the way to #Maamannan. I will cherish the experience of watching this film with Kamal Haasan sir. There are swords and guns in this film but it does not mean I am endorsing violence. Idhu Oru Nijathoda vanmurai. This film will create a room for thought, discussion, and questioning,” he added.

Thanking his actor for understanding and believing in his vision and politics, Mari said, “When I shot a scene with all four of them, I realised the meaning of grandeur.”
