Following the exit of director Bassam Tariq, it has been confirmed that the Blade film is currently being rewritten from scratch. Reports suggest that Moonknight showrunner Beau DeMayo is currently handling the rewrites. DeMayo has apparently impressed Marvel boss Kevin Feige with his work in the Moonknight series.
The Blade reboot, based on characters from the Marvel comics, stars Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali in the titular role. The upcoming Blade film would be a part of phase six of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe. Blade follows a part-vampire, part-human vampire assassin, and his exploits.
The previous Blade films, which starred Wesley Snipes in the lead role, will not be a part of the upcoming MCU. The Wesley Snipes Blade films started in 1998 and ended in 2002 as a trilogy. The rest of the cast is expected to be announced soon after the rewrites are done. The film is currently expected to release in 2023.
