It was recently announced that Disney is planning to make a live-action adaptation of their 2016 animation film Moana. The announcement was made by Dwayne Johnson, who played Maui in the film. He will be reprising his role for the live-action version along with Auli’i Cravalho, who played Moana. Now, reports suggest that the makers are fast-tracking production on the film, with the filming set to begin in October in Hawaii before moving to Georgia. 

Disney is currently filming the live-action adaptation of their 2002 animated film Lilo and Stitch in Hawaii. The upcoming film will be produced by Dwayne Johnson under his banner Seven Bucks Productions. Auli‘i Cravalho will serve as an executive producer in the film while Jared Bush, who wrote the screenplay for the animated film, will also serve as a producer.

While the original film is directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the makers are yet to confirm a director for the live-action film. Other upcoming live-action adaptations of Disney animated films include The Little Mermaid and Snow White.
