Netflix orders The Mole Agent adaptation

Previously, we had reported that Ted Danson and Mike Schur are reuniting for the comedy series based on The Mole Agent, a Chilean documentary released in 2020. The latest update is that Netflix had bought the distributing rights for the series.

The new show based on The Mole Agent was previously finding a streaming platform, and platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video and HBO Max were bidding for distribution rights. The series will be produced by Universal Television, Mike’s long-time home.

Mike Schur and Ted Danson previously worked together on The Good Place, where Schur was the creator, and Danson was a part of the main cast for all four seasons.

The Mole Agent made its debut at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. It was directed by Maite Alberdi and was selected as the Chilean entry for Best International Feature Film. The documentary shows Rómulo, a private investigator, hiring an elderly Sergio to infiltrate a nursing home in El Monte, Chile. Rumulo goes on an undercover mission to investigate a claim from his client that the staff was mistreating his mother. During his stay at the facility, Sergio starts befriending the residents and tries to learn their secrets.
