Questlove to direct live-action Aristocats for Disney

Ahmir Khalib Thompson, who is known professionally as Questlove, is all set to direct a live-action adaptation of the 1970 animated feature The Arsitocats. The film will mark his debut narrative feature.

The 1970s Aristocats was rooted and focused on Jazz. It followed a cat and her three kittens who inherit the fortune of their owner an heiress. Out of jealousy, a butler dumps the cats out in the countryside. The cats take the help of a musically-inclined alley cat to find their way back home to Paris.

The voice cast of the original Aritocats consisted of Eva Gabor and Phil Harris, with music by Robert and Richard Sherman. Richard Sherman previously did the music for Disney for Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Along with directing the feature, Questlove will also oversee the music for the film. The script for the live-action Aristocats will be penned by Will Gluck and Keith Bunin.

For his work on the documentary feature Summer of Soul, Questlove has previously earned an Oscar.
