Renowned actor and director Manobala died on Wednesday after suffering from liver-related issues. While the news of his demise comes as a shock, several from the film fraternity condoled Manobala’s death. Quick to note, actor Rajinikanth paid his respects to Manobala on social media.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing away of my dear friend Manophala, a famous director and actor. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace,” Rajinikanth wrote on social media.

Notably, Manobala had directed Rajinikanth in the 1987 action drama Oorkavalan, which also starred Raadhika. The film was a commercial success.

Having starred in more than 200 films, Manobala also had 24 films to his credit as director. His debut directorial feature was Aagaya Gangai in 1982, which starred Karthick and Suhasini in lead roles. Known for his strong comic roles, Manobala regularly collaborated with the biggest stars in Tamil cinema. The actor, producer and director began his career with the 1979’s Puthiya Vaarpugal, assisting director Bharathiraaja.

Manobala died aged 69. He is survived by wife Usha, son Harish.
