The makers of Barbie, released a new trailer of the film, recently. While the Margot Robbie-led film is garnering high expectations, Ryan Gosling who plays Ken has also attracted a fair share of criticism that he is too old to portray the character.

Responding to the ageist comments, Ryan in a recent interview addressed, “I would say, you know, if people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with.” He referred to where multiple actors will be playing different versions of Ken, including actors Simu Liu, John Cena and Ncuti Gatwa.

“It is funny, this kind of clutching-your-pearls idea of, like, #notmyken. Like you ever thought about Ken before this? And everyone was fine with that, for him to have a job that is nothing. But suddenly, it’s like, ‘No, we’ve cared about Ken this whole time.’ No, you didn’t. You never did. You never cared. If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told,” he added.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film is co-written by her along with Noah Baumbach. The music for the film is composed by Alexandre Desplat, who earlier collaborated with the director in the 2019 film Little Women. Barbie will hit the theatres on July 21.
