Mani Ratnam’s second part of Ponniyin Selvan released recently and has been garnering praises from the film industry fraternity. The latest to pour appreciation is filmmaker and actor Shekhar Kapur.

Expressing his appreciation for the film, the director wrote on Twitter, “Thanks Mani Ratnam for PS2 not only cinematic, thoroughly entertaining, but a terrific history lesson.” At the same time, he also expressed his dejection that the historic two-part film has come to an end and even suggested Mani Ratnam to make a third film.

“What a pity there’s not a PS-3 coming from Mani Ratnam. The Chola influence over the Oceans to present day Cambodia, even Indonesia would have been fascinating,” he added.

Ponniyin Selvan, inspired by Kalki’s novel by the same name, is a historic fictional film set during the reign of Chola empire. The film starred Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi in the lead roles, along with cast comprising of Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi and others.

The film is backed by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies, with music scored by AR Rahman.
