Actor Suriya’s films Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim, which had direct digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video, will reportedly have a theatrical re-release, marking the actor’s 47th birthday on July 23.
According to reports, the films will be screened in Chennai theatres between July 22 and 24. However, no official announcement has been made regarding the same.
Directed by Sudha Kongara, Soorarai Pottru is inspired by the real-life story of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath.
Jai Bhim, written and directed by TJ Gnanavel, is inspired by real-life landmark cases, which shed light on the custodial torture that Rajakannu, a man from the Irula tribe, is subjected to discrimination based on caste. Both the films were co-produced by Jyotika and Suriya for their banner 2D Entertainment.
Suriya’s courtroom drama which was the only Tamil film among the 276 films eligible to compete in the Best Picture category at the upcoming 94th Academy Awards 2022, failed to receive a nod at the Oscar nominations.
In 2021, Soorarai Pottru also dropped out of 93rd Academy Awards race. Meanwhile, Suriya has the long-awaited Vaadi Vaasal coming up. Speculations are also rife that he will be teaming up with director Ravi Kumar of Indru Netru Naalai fame for an upcoming film.
