Steven Spielberg and HBO are in works to adapt Stanley Kubrick’s one of the unrealised works, Napoleon, into a limited series consisting of seven parts, the director said during the Berlin International Film Festival. It will be produced by Steven along with Christiane Kubrick and Jan Harlan.
It was in 2013 when Steven first announced about the project and later in 2016, HBO also became involved. While the filmmaker did not give an update on development of the project, Napoleon was originally supposed to have been made after Stanley’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, which will elaborately talk about the life of revolutionary French leader Napoleon Bonaparte. However, considering how ambitious and large scale the project was during the time, it did not fruitate. Stanley had also considered Jack Nicholson to play the titular character with Audrey Hepburn play his wife.
Meanwhile, Steven’s last directed The Fablemans, which is currently running in theatres. It is a semi-autobiographical story loosely based on Steven’s adolescence and first years as a filmmaker. The film received seven nominations at the 95th Academy Awards, including a Best Director nod for Steven.
