Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson did not find a place but veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was included as former Australia cricketer Tom Moody picked India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Moody went with Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul as his wicket-keeping options as Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson missed out. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were picked as the specialist openers with Virat Kohli being an option. That ultimately led to Gill, who enjoyed a good run of form with Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, missing out on a surprising pick for the IPL-winning coach.

In the bowling department, Moody picked Ravindra Jadeja as the all-rounder option with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal being the specialist choices. Chahal has been phenomenal in the IPL 2024 till now and recently, he became the first bowler ever to complete 200 wickets in the competition.

Meanwhile, Gill remains optimistic of his chances when it comes to making the squad for the T20 World Cup but he said that it will be disappointing if he is not included despite having a good IPL season.

“I played the 50 overs World Cup last year and it was a dream for me to represent my country in a World Cup. If I am able to make it to this year’s T20 World Cup, it would be nothing short of a dream coming true. Last year’s World Cup experience would help me as we try to win the World Cup,” he said in an interview with Hindustan Times.

Tom Moody’s India squad for T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Rinku Singh, KL Rahul, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj.
