Previously, we reported that Universal Studios and Blumhouse have announced the release of a sequel to The Black Phone, which is slated for release on June 27, 2025. The recent update is that Ethan Hawke and other original cast members will be returning for the sequel to reprise their roles.
Ethan Hawke played the role of The Grabber, a criminal responsible for kidnapping several children with the cruel methods he’s mastered over time. The other cast members set to return include Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora.
The Black Phone revolves around a 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a child killer and locked in a soundproof basement in a suburban neighbourhood. This thriller turns into horror when the child starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer’s previous victims.
The first film was directed by Scott Derrickson, using his keen eye for horror that earned him praise for his work in Sinister. The studio didn’t confirm if the director would come back to work on the sequel. But after the original film released in 2022 turned out to be a success at the box office, it was clear that the studio would be making a franchise out of it.
