Oppenheimer, the much-anticipated film of director Christopher Nolan, is all set to hit the theatres on July 21. Ahead of that, the film’s lead actor, Cillian Murphy, who plays the titular role, recently revealed that he read Bhagavad Gita to get into his character’s mindspace.

The American nuclear physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, known as the father of the atomic bomb, learned Sanskrit at Berkley. Speaking about the same, Cillian noted that “I have become death, the destroyer of worlds,” which is the most repeated quote of Oppenheimer, which he borrowed from Geeta.

“I did read the Bhagavad Gita in preparation for the film. I thought it was an absolutely beautiful text. Very inspiring. It was a consolation to him. He kind of needed it. It provided a lot of consolation to him all his life.”

It may be noted that Oppenheimer is also known for his role in the Manhattan Project during World War II. Oppenheimer has been credited as the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory, a place known for assembling bombs.
