The hype surrounding the epic clash between Oppenheimer and Barbie has resulted in happy times for the global box office where both films are creating newer records with every passing day.

The Godfather filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola expressed his elation about both films bringing in audiences by the droves to the theatres. In an interaction with his fans on social media, the veteran filmmaker was asked if he had watched both the two big-ticket releases.

He wrote, “I have yet to see them, but the fact that people are filling big theatres to see them and that they are neither sequels nor prequels, no number attached to them, meaning they are true one-offs, is a victory for cinema.”

Answering a question about the future of cinema, Coppola wrote, “My hunch is that we’re on the verge of a golden age. Wonderful and illuminating cinema seen in large theatres.”

It is clear Barbie and Oppenheimer could be the start of something really huge in global cinema, and it will be interesting to see where the world goes from here, in terms of not just content, but exhibition too.
