The upcoming live action adaptation based on the He-Man franchise, titled The Masters of the Universe, has been shelved.

As per reports, the adaptation was meant to be attached to Netflix after Warner Brothers and Sony, with about $30 million spent on the development and production, including casting and direction. While the pre-production was happening, its incurring costs became an issue subsequently. Adam and Aaron Nee were expected to serve as the directors.

The Masters of the Universe was set against the backdrop of planet Eternia and revolved around the conflict between He-Man and Skeletor. The story was adapted as an animated series in the 1980s. While spin-offs and reboots were there, a live-action adaptation released in 1987. It starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man.
