With just a few weeks left for the release of Barbie, one of the anticipated films of the year, actor Margot Robbie who plays the lead in the film, confirmed that discussions on the film sequel is already underway.

While the makers have remained tight-lipped about Barbie‘s plot, the film takes inspiration from the famous Mattel doll which has been iconic for many years. The film, directed by Greta Gerwig, is set to hit the theatres on July 21.

On one side, Mattle CEO Ynon Kreiz is positive about his excitement for Barbie and for a potential sequel of the film or as he is quoted “more Barbie movies”, while on the other Margot revealed that she has been involved in discussions while no steady plans are still on. However, the actor did acknowledge that Barbie can be taken forth and has scopes to be presented in many ways.

“It could go a million different directions from this point. But I think you fall into a bit of a trap if you try and set up a first movie whilst also planning for sequels,” Margot was quoted as saying.

Barbie is co-written by Noah Baumbach with the cast including Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, Dua Lipa, among others.
